Technical hitches being removed to implement computerized tracking of locomotives

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is in process of improving software and removing technical hitches for smooth implementation of a project, launched for computerized tracking of the locomotives.

Besides installation of tracking devices on locomotives, matching equipment is being installed in central control office at Lahore and seven operational divisions at Karachi, Sukkur, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta.
The project, initiated during 2009 was ill conceived and poorly implemented with the result that the system is not fully functional.
According to Pakistan Railways sources here, the project is being implemented in collaboration with Electronic Government Directorate, as such the allocation of funds for the project can be given by concerned Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT).
