ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday expressed displeasure over the implication of Pakistan Army into politics.
Responding to a question about media reports regarding alleged involvement of some army officials in last year’s sit-in here at the NADRA Headquarters, he said that the Pakistan Army was a disciplined and highly professional force.
In the war against terrorism and extremism, Pakistan Army needed full support of the nation and such baseless allegations, he said, should not be levelled. Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, a thoroughly professional soldier, was leading his force from the front in the war against terrorists and he had the confidence of the entire nation and the government, he added.
The minister, who earlier inaugurated the online facility of getting Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC), said all applicants would be treated as Very Important Persons (VIPs) as now there would be no need to come to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office for renewal of identity cards.
The facility, he added, had now been provided online. The people would not have to stand in queues and the CNICs would be delivered at home.
New services had been initiated such as tracking system for passports and CNICs. Through this system, an applicant could know the status of his/her card, he added.
Chaudhry Nisar said the people would have to come to the NADRA offices only for biometrics verification while the remaining requirements for renewal of their CNICs would be conducted online.
Regarding issuance of fake CNICs, he said there was no place for corrupt elements in NADRA. Some 26 fake CNICs were issued in 2011, 493 in 2012, 6000 in 2013, 22000 in 2014 and 64000 during current the year, which had been blocked, he added.
Chaudhry Nisar said that the NADRA was in process to establish a DNA laboratory in next six months to facilitate law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in investigation of cases. Currently, the DNA service was being availed from abroad, he added.
He said the Authority would set up 13 next generation business centers of international standard across the country in six months to facilitate the people.
The minister said that he wanted to make NADRA a transparent and corruption-free organization.
He said it had cleared a backlog of 650,000 CNICs with six months and earned Rs 5 billion. He lauded the NADRA employees, who worked hard to end the backlog and make the organization a profitable institution. Those employees, he said, were awarded Rs 15,000.
To a question, the minister said that a car mistakenly came in the way of the Prime Minister’s convoy and its driver after investigations was proved innocent.
