MQM protests in Sindh Assembly over death of worker

KARACHI: Over a dozen Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers, protested in front of the  Sindh Assembly over the death of their worker, Aaj News reported.

The protesters held placards with pictures of Muhammad Hashim. an MQM worker whose body was found near Jamshoro,

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, present in the assembly, promised the protesters that he will look into the matter. Meanwhile, Sindh speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, said that if the shouting does not end he will have to postpone the session.

Earlier, in a late night announcement Muttahida Qaumi Movement took back a strike call after Rangers assured they will investigate the death of their worker, Aaj News reported.

At a late night press conference held by Rabita Committee, MQM leaders welcomed that DG Rangers Maj General Bilal’s condemnation of their Muhammad Hashim’s murder.

The body of Hashim, a worker at the party’s information department was found near Jamshoro.

Hashim, a member of Unit 164 in Liaquatabad, had been arrested by the Rangers on May 6 when he was heading home from party headquarters at Nine Zero, local media reported.

The paramilitary force had then shifted him to an undisclosed location. Since then, his whereabouts were not known, prompting his family to file a petition in the Sindh High Court for his recovery. The court had on July 28 directed officials to register an FIR for his disappearance, newspapers reported.

The party took back the strike the call after DG Rangers condemned the murder an promised a thorough investigation.
