PESHAWAR: The demand of PTI Chief, Imran Khan, seeking resignations of ECP Members, has been termed as a political gimmick, aimed at finding escape from by-polls to be held in October.
“The PTI Chief demand is very unreasonable and irrational because if ECP Members resigned, it will take around six months to appoint new officials after evolving consensus of political parties,” said Haji Ghulam Ali, Central leader of JUI(F) and former Senator.
Talking to APP on Monday, Haji Ghulam Ali said Imran should have shown political sagacity by appreciating the decision of PML(N) leadership of going to public for re-election on three seats, instead of opting for legal course.
“Imran is a political novice and his demand of seeking resignation from election commission members, has proved it well,” he added.
He asked legal advisors of Imran Khan to guide their leader on such issues so that he would not make any illogical demands in future.
Ghulam Ali said the PTI claims to hold Local Bodies polls in KP in an appropriate manner. He pointed out these LG polls were held under the supervision of same election commission officials on whom he is now raising objections and demanding resignation.
He said the LG polls in KP were also full of lacunas which were pointed out by different political parties but no heed was given to this demand and PTI was still claiming of organizing polls in transparent manner.
He said his party (JUI)F along with PPP and ANP boycotted the polling for Nazims and Naib Nazims because these were announced in a very haphazard manner.
Former Senator, Haji Ghulam Ali urged the leadership of PTI to opt for constructive politics as country is passing through a critical juncture because of last stages of ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azab.
Similarly, he added, it is time for showing political unity because of unprovoked attacks by India in border areas whereas PTI leadership is bent upon creating internal unrest in the country by making unjust and illegal demands.
“This is childish demand which reflects political immaturity of PTI leadership,” said Arbab Khizar Hayat, Provincial leader of PML(N).
At this stage when PML(N) has challenged PTI of face to face fight in by-polls, but PTI is making lame excuses by demanding resignations of ECP members which willfurther delay holding of by-polls.
Arbab Khizar Hayat demanded of PTI leader to accept of challenge of PML(N) and make preparations of by-polls on seats vacated on order of election commission.
“PTI leader Imran Khan is bent on destroying democratic institutions in the country by making unreasonable demands and pressuring officials through holding of protest procession,” said Malik Mustafa, President Awami National Party (ANP) Peshawar district.
If such politics continued in the country, it will destabilize all state institutions and leave very damaging impact on public sector entities, Mustafa added.
Imran is acting under directives of some hidden forces and is bent upon ruining the political culture and democratic set-up, Malik Mustafa added.
ANP leader appreciated the decision of PML(N) leadership of contesting elections on those seats which had become controversial.
The PTI leader should have shown his political maturity by welcoming the decision, but he opted for protest which is considered as a escape from elections, he added.
