Former ISI chief, Lt Gen (Retd) Hameed Gul laid to rest in Rawalpindi

WEB DESK: Former Chief Inter Services Intelligence, Lieutenant General (Retd) Hameed Gul has been laid to rest in Race Course graveyard, Rawalpindi on Sunday ,Aaj News reported.

His funeral prayers were offered at Race Course Ground and was attended among others by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and and General (retd) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Gul served as chief of the country’s premier spy agency between 1987 and 1989. He was a key figure at the time the Soviet Union was engaged in a war with Afghanistan. He was one of the leaders who took part in training the Afghan Mujahideen to fight off the Soviet forces.

The former ISI chief died of brain hemorrhage on Saturday night at the hill resort of Murree near the capital, Islamabad. He was 79 years old.
