“Comeback? I never went away,” Aishwarya at latest movie launch

WEB DESK: Sanjay Gupta’s movie Jazbaa’s trailer showed the beautiful Aishwarya Rai as a desperate mother fighting for her daughter’s life– and added another movie to the strong women leads that Bollywood is promoting.

The movie’s supporting cast looks refreshingly new with Irrfan Khan, Jackie Shroff and Shabana Azmi. Although the movie was hailed as the comeback of Ashwariya Rai Bachchan on screen after five years, she has something else to say in this regard.

“Comeback? I never went away.” She said in an interview to Vogue. “I don’t see or feel that I have been absent. All working women will agree that time flies by and I have also not dwelt on this movie as my comeback vehicle,” Aishwarya said at the trailer launch, reported Indian Express.

She also disagreed on characterizing Jazbaa as female-centric: “We don’t compartmentalize a film into male or female centric film. We take up a film to engage in storytelling and to bring that story before the audience. I think the viewers too don’t see it as male or female centric. They see it as a film and it will work if it has a great story.”

Although Irfan Khan who is helping Rai in the quest to save her daughter’s life says that he doesn’t mind being sidelined by Ashwariya Rai in the movie.

Jazbaa’s trailer begins with Rai introducing herself as advocate Anuradha Verma who receives an anonymous call asking her to defend a rape and murder victim, she learns that her daughter is being held ransom. What follows is a spiral of events that force her to fight for something she is against.

With the promising story structure and acting, the wait will be over on October 9.
