Ashes win lifts England to 3rd spot ahead of Pakistan in ICC Test Rankings

KARACHI: England has vaulted three places to third in the ICC Test Team Rankings after reclaiming the Ashes 3-2,International Cricket Council announced on Monday.

England had started the series in sixth position and has leapfrogged Pakistan, New Zealand and India into third place following victories in the Cardiff Test (by 169 runs), Edgbaston Test (by eight wickets) and Trent Bridge Test (by an innings and 78 runs). The series win has earned Alastair Cook’s side five points.

This means England now sits on 102 points, one point ahead of its next Test opponent Pakistan.

Pakistan and England will play a three-Test series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 13 October to 5 November. If either side was to win all the three Tests in the UAE, it will move ahead of Australia in second place, irrespective of how the two-Test series between Bangladesh and Australia, to be played from 9-21 October, pans out.

Australia, meanwhile, has retained its second position on the ICC Test Team Rankings but has slipped to 106 points – 19 points behind number-one ranked South Africa (125) and four points ahead of England. The series loss has cost it five points.
