AGP takes notice of 600,000 ghost pensioners

ISLAMABAD: The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has taken notice of 600,000 ghost pensioners who are drawing pensions from national exchequer.

The Auditor General of Pakistan Rana Assad Amin has issued directives to field Audit Offices to conduct an Audit of pension payments under their respective audit jurisdictions and submit their Audit reports immediately.

It is pertinent to mention here that National Bank of Pakistan is one of those institutions which are not getting their accounts audited from department of Auditor General of Pakistan due to the stay granted by Sindh High Court.

The case of ghost pensioners, if any, could have been unearthed during the audit of National Bank of Pakistan.

According to the Constitution of Pakistan, it is mandatory for federal and provincial governments as well as any authority or body to get their accounts audited by the Auditor General of Pakistan.
