The rupee moved both ways against the dollar on the money market on Thursday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gave up overnight gains against the dollar, losing 20-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 102.80 and Rs 103.00 respectively, however it shed 30-paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 112.75 and Rs 113.75 respectively, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: INTERBANK MARKET RATES: The rupee gained two-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.73 and Rs 101.74 respectively, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the yen surrendered some of its gains on Thursday as a smidgen of stability returned to recently volatile Chinese stock markets, and investors locked in gains after the Japanese currency’s biggest one-day rally against the greenback this year.
The dollar was up 0.4 percent at 121.21 yen, after tumbling 1.5 percent on Wednesday to suffer its biggest drop since December. It fell as far as 120.410 yen as investors unwound short positions amid a slump in global equities triggered by panic selling in Chinese stocks.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 63.54, the greenback was at 3.8000 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.2087 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee failed to keep going up and remained under pressure against the dollar on Thursday though the former remained weak and lost 10 paisas against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.60 and Rs 102.85 against the overnight closing of Rs 102.50 and Rs 102.75.
The rupee kept rising and appreciated against the pound sterling which was traded at Rs 156.75 and Rs 157.00 as its buying and selling rate compared with the Wednesday closing of Rs 157.00 and Rs 157.80.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
