LAHORE: Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar Saturday said the government was determined to increase resources and GDP-spending on education and health sectors from two percent to four percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2018.
Addressing the meeting of Board of Directors of University of Health Sciences (UHS) here, he said the health and education were among top priorities of the PML-N government.
He said that the government was putting all-out coordinated efforts to eliminate terrorism and put the country on path of economic progress and development.
The Minister said the 18th Amendment devolved the education and health sectors to the provinces while the federal government was striving to put in place strategies in collaboration with the provinces for the provision of the best health and education facilities to the people.
He said the UHS was ranked the second best public sector medical university in Pakistan as per standards of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) which indicated its quality assurance, teaching quality and excellence in research.
UHS Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (retd) Muhammad Aslam briefed the Minister about new projects of the UHS, including Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) campus, initiation of dental sciences postgraduate, nursing and others.
He also demanded the government to issue grants for early completion of the KSK Campus while the Federal Minister assured him of full cooperation and support in completion of the project.
