ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday informed National Assembly that the government is planning to establish one university or its sub- campus in every district within next three years to promote higher education.
During question hour in the House, the minister said the government is taking numerous steps to promote higher education as youth is real power being architects of future.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government has granted permission to establish general university in Swat subject to availability of funds.
The minister said the government had allocated huge amount of Rs 20 billion in the previous financial year for the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and spent Rs 28 billion to facilitate maximum youth.
Ashan Iqbal said in fiscal year 2015-16, Rs 21 billion have been allocated for HEC to complete ongoing projects well in time.
Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary for Finance, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan said a list of 129 industrial units had been prepared for privatization and the government is restructuring different units for this purpose.
Rana Afzal said a comprehensive law titled “The Corporate Rehabilitation Bill” has been drafted by Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and is in the process of enactment.
Parliamentary Secretary said the law will encompass all aspects and would address the issues of rehabilitation of closed, sick industrial and SME units in a much better and effective manner than the previously notified rules.
Efforts are underway to get all the legal formalities completed to get the law passed by the Parliament as early as possible, he added.
