The rupee moved both ways against the dollar on the currency market on Monday in the process of trading, they said. The rupee failed to sustain its overnight levels in relation to the dollar, falling three-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 101.77 and Rs 101.78 respectively, dealers said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to recover in terms of the dollar, picking up 20-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.70 and Rs 102.90 respectively. It also rose by 60-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 114.80 and Rs 115.80, they said.
In the first Asian trade, the euro lurched lower on Monday after efforts to end a deadlock between Greece and its creditors broke up in failure over the weekend. The greenback was subdued against the yen, treading water at 123.445 yen. Dollar bulls will be hoping the Federal Reserve will offer a clear signal on the timing of its first interest rate hike in nearly a decade after its June 16-17 policy meeting.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 64.11, the greenback was at 3.7605 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.208 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged amid a dull activity on Monday, leaving the dollar stagnant helping instead the rupee stability. The former was traded at it last week closing of Rs 102.75 and Rs 103.00 on buying and selling side. The rupee recovered some of its earlier losses and improved against the pound sterling whose buying and selling rate slide down from the last Saturday closing of Rs 159.50 and Rs 159.75 to Rs 159.00 and Rs 159.25.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
