The dollar crossed Rs 103 against the rupee on the money market on Tuesday due to slight rise in demand for the greenback, they said. The rupee slipped by two-paisa against the dollar for buying at Rs 101.82 and it also shed one-paisa for selling at Rs 101.83, dealers said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee also lost 20-paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.90 and Rs 103.10, however it depreciated by 80-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 115.00 and Rs 116.00 respectively, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the euro fell on Tuesday as traders looked beyond an endless stream of headlines indicating progress in Greek debt talks while the dollar gained traction from solid US housing data.
In Asia, a survey on Chinese manufacturing showed that factory activity may be stabilising but not stopped contracting, undermining commodity currencies. The common currency dropped 0.6 percent in Asia to trade at $1.1268, falling more than a full cent from Monday’s high of $1.14105.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 63.62, the greenback was at 3.7460 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.208 against the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee kept going down for another day and lost 10-paisa on Tuesday. The dollar opened healthily by gaining following fresh buying and ended further higher at Rs 102.70 and Rs 102.95 on buying and selling side against Rs 102.60 and Rs 102.85 of Monday. The rupee staged recovery and improved its worth against the pound sterling whose buying and selling rates improved from the overnight closing of Rs 161.75 and Rs 162.00 to Rs 161.00 and Rs 161.25.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
