KARACHI: The execution of death row convict Shafqat Hussain has been postponed once again, hours before he was due to be hanged, Aaj News reported.
According to the reports, the orders were received from the Interior Minister after which IG Jail Nusrat Begum postponed his execution. It is the fourth time Shafqat Hussain, who was found guilty of kidnapping and killing a child in 2004, has been given a stay of execution.
Hussain was 14 when he was charged, and was tortured into making a confession, his lawyers said.
His execution was scheduled for a day on June 9, 2015. On Friday, a group of United Nations human rights experts urged the Pakistani authorities to halt Shafqat Hussain’s execution.
Earlier, Hussain’s family appealed to the Supreme Court to stop his execution but this appeal got turned down by the court.
