RAWALPINDI: Police on the special directive of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Region Muhammad Wasal Fakhar Sultan Raja will take strict action against one-wheelers and car skaters.
According to RPO spokesman, the RPO has directed the police officers concerned including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to take strict action against those found involved in motorcycle race and one wheeling particularly during Ramazan ul Mubarik nights.
He said, district police is making efforts to control one-wheeling and car skating as the increasing trend of one-wheeling and car skating by youngsters has claimed several precious lives and a number of youngsters have sustained serious injuries.
The activity was already being checked by special squads of Traffic police and district police deputed on the city roads but for Ramazan nights, several other arrangements are made to curb the activity.
The police officers have been directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them.
The activity was also being checked at night as during Ramazan, youngsters taking benefit of the thin traffic on city roads, indulged in one-wheeling and created troubles for other road users.
Night duties of police officers are being arranged to control the rules violations including one-wheeling, he informed.
He said, one-wheelers are not only playing with their own lives but they are also a threat for other road users that is why stern action is taken against them.
He said the efforts to control the activity would continue and cases would be registered against one-wheelers.
The RPO urged the citizens particularly parents that they should play their role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents. Nowadays, youths are seen riding the two-wheelers at break-neck speed, without caring their lives, he said adding they should avoid this practice hereafter as it is in their own interest.
