ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday expressed displeasure over unscheduled load shedding in the beginning of Ramazan and directed for putting in place arrangements to cater to unfavorable weather conditions.
He was chairing the 16th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy here at the PM House.
The Secretary Water and Power, briefing the meeting, said that load shedding during Ramazan was being done as per the approved plan with no power outages during Sehr and Iftar.
He, however said that the transmission and distribution system was disturbed when country’s southern areas faced an unprecedented heat wave on the first day of holy month, followed by thunderstorms in few parts of the country the next day.
The meeting discussed in detail the power supply situation in Karachi and matters related to KESC. It also expressed concern that KESC was not generating electricity at its full capacity and instead was taking 650 MW from the national grid.
The meeting was also briefed on demand, supply, transmission and distribution projections for 2015-18 including hydro, nuclear, wind, solar, LNG and thermal power plants.
The Prime Minister directed that in addition to increasing supply of electricity, measures should also be taken to simultaneously upgrade the transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The meeting that lasted for over three hours, was also updated on Matiari-Lahore transmission line.

Minister of State for Petroleum Jam Kamal Khan; MOS Water and Power Abid Sher Ali; Advisor to PM on National Security Sartaj Aziz; Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi; Special Assistant to PM Dr. Musaddiq Malik; Secretary to PM Javed Aslam; Secretary Petroleum Arshad Mirza; Secretary Economic Affairs Division Saleem Sethi; Secretary Railways Ms. Parveen Agha and Chairman WAPDA Zafar Mahmood along with other senior federal and provincial government officials, also attended the meeting.
