ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Leader Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi Thursday said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) should prove its innocence if the allegations levelled by British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) were baseless.

Talking to media persons at the Parliament House here, he said that BBC was a credible institution and it could not publish any news item without having solid proofs against any political party.

“The allegations against MQM are very serious, if It denies them, It should file a libel lawsuit in the international court against BBC.”, he proposed.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi urged the federal government to probe into the matter and let the nation know about the reality regarding MQM.

He asked Sindh government whether the offer to MQM for becoming collation partner in the province was still standing after all these allegations or it had changed its mind.

Criticizing Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Qureshi said that the innocent people of Karachi were dying due to sizzling summer temperature but management of the party was on the tour of Dubai.

He said that Prime Minister should play its due role and pay a visit to Karachi to show solidarity with the victims of heatwave.

Meanwhile, Senator Rubina Khalid said that these were only allegations against MQM and it should declare its point of view in order to prove itself innocence.

MNA Sheikh Ruhail Asghar said that it was amazing, the chief of MQM was living in UK and that country’s news channel was leveling allegations against his party.

The British government should probe into the matter and if these allegations were correct then It should deport Altaf Hussain to Pakistan, he opined.

Dr. Ramesh Kumar said that the allegations against MQM were not new ones adding that there should be something fishy into the matter.

MNA Gulzar Khan said that MQM was the fourth largest party in the country adding that it was not a good thing to suspect any party on the basis of mere allegations.

MNA Chaudhry Javed Anwar said that it was very serious issue and the security agencies should look into the matter.

“If MQM is found guilty, it should be penalized”, he opined.

MNA Ghulam Mustafa Shah proposed that Pakistan and United Kingdom (UK) governments should jointly conduct an investigation in the light of allegations against MQM leveled by BBC and if proved correct, the culprit should be taken to task.

Senator Sassi Paijo emphasized MQM to go at any extent to prove the allegations false otherwise, it would loose its credibility.
