ISLAMABAD: Legendary batsman Javed Miandad pleaded that Saeed Ajmal should have been included in the squad against Sri Lanka.
I can’t understand why the selectors did not give chance to Ace bowler Saeed Ajmal who has been the number one bowler in the rankings.”
He expressed his disappointment over PCB decision not to include Saeed Ajmal and said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was shattering the off-spinner’s confidence.
Miandad said Ajmal has been the flag-bearer of the Pakistani bowling attack in the last couple of years and had led them to many victories. However Miandad said that Pakistan should focus on to win this series.
Speaking about Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas being nominated by the PCB for the International Cricket Council (ICC) presidency, Miandad said it was a very good decision by the PCB.
“Zaheer can play his executive part in convincing the Council and international teams to tour here,” he said.
Miandad said Zaheer deserved to be the ICC president for what he has done for Pakistan cricket over the years. “Cricketers can run the cricket affairs better than anyone else,” he added.
He said after the Zimbabwe team’s visit to Pakistan many other teams would be interested to tour here but it’s just a matter of convincing them and a personality like Zaheer can definitely do this.
Former Test Cricketer Sarfraz said the team under performed in the series against Bangladesh. “It is hard to understand where the game plan was, whether it was with the players or the coaches,” he said adding these mistakes should not be repeated against Sri Lanka.
Sarfraz said he feels new coaches can improve the team. “We have given the current coaches much time but our team hasn’t got better except for the series against Zimbabwe. Sarfraz said youngsters should be groomed now as the Twenty-20 World Cup is scheduled for next year and we should start its preparations right now.
