WEB DESK: Less than one percent motorcyclists who ply the streets of Karachi wear a helmet.
A recent survey by the Road Traffic Injury Research and Prevention Centre states that the number of bike riders increased from 13,271 in the year 2013 to 16,681 in the year 2014.
The number of people that wore helmet was around 1,610 less than one percent of total motorcyclist in City.
According to reports in the local media around 150 people in Karachi visit Jinnah Post Graduate Center every day for the treatment of motorbike relating injuries.
Of them 300 patients get admitted to the hospital to get treated for serious injuries.
The law which makes compulsory wearing a helmet will come into effect at 12:00 tonight. Every one male or female has to wear a helmet on a bike.
However, Karachiites have rejected this decision and as they see this as another way to bother public.
Traffic police will levy a Rs150 fine and take legal actions against the motorcyclist with no helmets.
