LAHORE: City District Government Lahore (CDGL) during last 10 days of crackdown against overcharging, arrested 2038 shopkeepers after lodging FIRs out of which 722 were sent to the prison for three days after summary trial on the spot.
CDGL also set up Sahulat Centres in main markets of the city where Price Control Magistrates are present to take prompt action on the complaint of overcharging.
District Coordination Officer Lahore Capt. (retd) Muhammad Usman said that 104 Price Control Magistrates paid 13677 surprise visits to shops, located in diverse parts of metropolitan to check the prices of essential items. The Magistrates found 2944 violations (both minor and major) of overcharging and of not displaying rate lists in their shops.
He further told that 988 shops keepers were fined amounting Rs 193,8500.
Usman said that Price Control Magistrates have been directed to take maximum actions on the complaints of overcharging.
