A range-bound trading was seen on the money market on Tuesday as the rupee moved with little change versus the dollar in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee almost maintained its overnight levels against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.80 and Rs 101.81 respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee dropped further five-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.45 and Rs 102.65 respectively. It also lost 75-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 114.50 and Rs 114.70 respectively, they added.
In the second Asian trade, the dollar firmed against major counterparts, as ongoing anxiety over Greece’s debt crisis helped push the euro toward a one-week low. Two Greek finance ministry officials told Reuters that Athens paid about 750 million euros to the International Monetary Fund a day before it was due, but this was not enough to alleviate anxieties that the country will be able to make future payments.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 64.18, the greenback was at 3.6230 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit, the US currency was at 6.2095 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee regained its earlier loss and improved five-paisa in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Tuesday.
The dollar resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 102.55 and Rs 102.80 as its buying and selling rate, but in the absence of buyers’ interest, it fell to Rs 102.50 and Rs 102.75 on buying and selling side. The rupee failed to rise on and depreciated its worth against the British pound whose buying and selling rates improved from the overnight closing of Rs 157.25 and Rs 157.50 to Rs 159.50 and Rs 160.30.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling)
