Sukkur police recovers over 100,000 empty wheat bags

SUKKUR: The Sukkur Police on Tuesday night conducted raids on different warehouses in Sukkur and Pano Aqil and recovered over 100,000 empty wheat bags while 15 accused were also arrested.

Following the complaints made to the Food Department in Sukkur about the unavailability of bags, the police raided warehouses belonging to influential landlords in the area and recovered over 100,000 bags.

The police also arrested 15 suspects and also registered FIRs against the arrested accused.

SSP Sukkur Tanveer Hussain told the media men that the police received a tip-off that large number of wheat bags had been stored illegally in the warehouses.

He said, instead of providing the bags to farmers for free, the officials of food department had allegedly sold the bags to the landlords.
