Nurallah Sheikh was only 13 when Salman Khan’s vehicle trampled his father who was sleeping on a footpath. Thirteen years later he states that he does not want to send Khan to jail.
In an interview with DNAIndia, Sheikh said that Khan was still his favourite actor. “Salman is my favorite actor. I am his fan even after the accident in which my father lost his life. I usually watch Salman’s movies”, the paper quoted Sheikh saying.
Sheikh states that even if Khan serves a jail sentence, life for his family will not improve. “We just need to lead a good life, we have suffered a lot. I hope that the compensation that is due to my mother is given and she has a better life from hereon,” the paper stated.
Meanwhile, Nurullah’s wife Begum Jahan also recollected the hardship she faced after losing him.
“I din’t even know Salman Khan when I was told about Nurullah’s death. The day started as usual meanwhile, we got news that something bad had happened”, DNAIndia quoted his wife.
“I had to believe the tragic incident when someone told young’s Feroz, ‘tera baap Salman Khan ke gaadi ke neeche aake khatam ho gaya’, which was so shocking”, she added.
She said she had tried to meet Khan and his family but was turned away every time. “After the accident I had gone to meet him at his residence to seek help, but I was told that I am not allowed to meet him and I should not come back.”
Begum further added, “Yes, that was a mistake made by Salman, he didn’t do it deliberately”.
Feroz and his mother said that they just want Khan to humbly accept his mistake and nothing else. “We want to improve our life as sending him to jail won’t solve our problem”, they said.
They also talked about the system of India, as the poor never get justice there, they added. “No one helps us in trying to find the facts and figures regarding the case. Family members, friends, and even the police also turned us away,” she said.
The 49 year old Bollywood actor Salman Khan was accused of running over a group of people sleeping on a sidewalk in Mumbai in 2002. His vehicle killed one and injured four.
The Mumbai High Court sentenced him to five years in prison. On Friday the sentence was suspended and the court extended his bail. A final hearing will be held in July.
