ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulator Authority (PEMRA) summoned Section 27 of PEMRA Amendment Act 2007 and prohibited the Broadcast media from airing any speech that may bring harm to national interest, Aaj News reported.
PEMRA issued show cause notices to 14 TV channels for airing Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain’s speech, claiming that the speech was against the ethics and targeted the integrity of state.
Authorities warned the TV channels to make to install the delay mechanism to avoid such telecast.
Earlier a letter was written by the information minister Pervaiz Rashid to the caretaker chairman of PEMRA, stating that the government condemns the elements that spread hatred in society.
Information Minister earlier said that baseless criticism of National security institutions can cause malice.
