WEBDESK: A campaign for women rights, endorsed by celebrities has gone viral in India.
Sometimes we see Madhuri Dixit endorsing ‘Larkay Rulatay Nahin Hain’ and at other times we see Deepika Padukone campaigning for the right of women to make choices.
The situation for women in Pakistan is much the same. Catcalling on the streets, staring and leering are common irritants women who walk the streets go through every day.
Though not widely publicised, a law in the constitution allows women to report harassment of any sort – at the workplace, marketplace, a park or any public place – to the police. Under Section 509 of the Criminal Law Act, people who harass women in a public or private place may be charged with a Rs500,000 fine or imprisoned for three years or both.
Here are a few pictures that are floating the internet these days.
Let’s teach our boys to stop treating women as objects.
