KARACHI: Unknown gunmen, ridding motorcycle opened fire at a vehicle near Safoora Chorangi, killing at least 45 people, Aaj News reported.
According to the reports, the gun men first shot down the driver, causing the bus to stop then they got on board and opened fire on the passengers killing at least 45 people and injuring several others it is expected that the death toll will raise.
The injured have been rushed to Memon Medical Complex.
The passengers are reported to belong to the Ismaili-Shiite sect. This is the first time this sect has been attacked.
In the past buses with passengers from the Hazara, also part of the Shiite sect has been targeted in attacks across the country.
Aaj News reported, the bus was attacked from all sides and many were left critically injured. Many women and children were aboard the bus during the attack.
As news of the incident was received, rescue teams, police and Rangers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.
Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan condemned the inhumane act of terrorism and asked for an immediate report on the ongoing scenario.
Chaudhary Nisar, Interior Minister asked the IG Sindh to submit a report following the incident.
Minister of Health launched emergency in Hospitals.
According to SSP Malir, the bus was leaving to Ayesha Manzil from Al-Azhar garden.
Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff postponed his visit to Srilanka, said ISPR.
PTI Chief Imran Khan also condemned the incident. He tweeted on Social Media.
PPP MNA Sharmeela Farooqi expressed sorrow over the tragic incident, saying that:
Over 150 empty bullet shells of pistols and Kalashnikovs were found at the scene.
Sindh government announced a day of mourning over this tragic incident.
According to the ISPR, to review the situation after today’s bus attack on the Ismaili community, General Raheel Sharif is en-route to Karachi.
Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh announced 0.5 million for the families of deceased and 0.2 millions for the ones who got injured.
Arif Alvi requested all to declare a day of mourning over the heinous incident of Karachi. He said, action must be taken against the culprits.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will arrive in Karachi this evening. He will be visiting the victims of the attack.
Zardari condemns attack on innocent people
Former President and Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday condemned the attack on innocent people in Karachi in which 43 citizens killed and more than a dozen injured.
