WEB DESK: Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation in a joint effort with World Gastroenterology Organization hosted a seminar on “Heartburn” on the day of World Digestive Health Day, May 29, 2015.
Professor Anwar Naqvi, Doctor Ziagham Abbas, Doctor Rajesh madhwani, Doctor Mazoor Siddiqui, Doctor Muhammad Ali Khalid, Doctor Amir Bakhsh, Doctor Ghulamullah Lail and Doctor Ghous Bux Soomro addressed the seminar.
Heartburn usually occurred just behind the sternum due to the evaporation of acids.
About 25% of the world wide population gets affected by this medical disorder.
The expert in seminar emphasizes to create awareness among the people about this disease. According to previous research, approximately 24% of the population is suffering from heartburn meaning that creating awareness about this disease among the Pakistani population is inevitable.
Smoking, beverages, citrus fruits and spicy foods are the reason behind heart burn along with consuming large meals, the experts asked not to lie down unless two hours are passed after consuming the meal.
According to the experts, heartburn can cause inflammation of the tube that runs from the throat to the stomach; this inflammation can cause esophagus cancer.
The experts also discussed that heartburn in children as it often causes vomiting, chest infection, breathe with a whistling sound and inability to grow. However the treatment is similar to that of adults.
