Slight recovery was witnessed on the money market on Wednesday as the rupee moved up versus the dollar in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gained one-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.55 and Rs 101.57 respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee recovered overnight losses against the dollar, gaining five-paisa in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.40 and Rs 102.60 respectively, they said. The rupee, however, lost 25 paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 109.75 and Rs 110.00, they said.
In the third Asian trade, the euro edged lower, pressured by continued uncertainty over Greece’s debt negotiations, while the Australian dollar rose after inflation data suggested an interest rate cut was not imminent. The euro drifted down about 0.1 percent to 128.29 yen, moving back toward its overnight low of 127.45. Against the greenback, the euro slipped about 0.1 percent to $1.0722.
The dollar was available against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.76, the greenback was at 3.6115 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.1976 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee has kept going up for another day and improved by five-paisa against the greenback on the local currency market.
Currency dealers said the dollar resumed trading under pressure and ended further lower at Rs 102.50 and Rs 102.75 on the buying and selling side against Rs 102.55 and Rs 102.80 of Tuesday. The rupee failed to maintain surging and too remained under pressure against the pound sterling that was traded at Rs 152.75 and Rs 153.00 on the buying and selling counter compared with previous closing of Rs 152.00 and Rs 152.25.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
