The rupee managed to hold overnight levels against the dollar on the money market on Tuesday, dealers said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee inched up by one-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.96 and Rs 101.98 respectively, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee held the last level versus the dollar for buying Rs 102.20, while it shed 10-paisa for selling at Rs 102.50, the said.
In the second Asian trade, the dollar held firm in Asia, having recovered almost all of its payroll-inspired losses while the Australian dollar jumped more than one percent after the Australian central bank refrained from cutting rates.
The dollar index stood at 97.040, recovering from Monday’s low of 96.329, with the dent from surprisingly soft US payroll data announced on Friday proving to be temporary.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.32, the greenback was at 3.6310 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.1923 in terms of the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee remained weak and lost five-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Tuesday.
Currency dealers said the dollar resumed trading on a healthy note and gained following fresh buying. At close the dollar ended higher at Rs 102.30 and Rs 102.55 on buying and selling side against Rs 102.25 and Rs 102.50 of Monday, respectively. The rupee surged and improved against the pound sterling that was traded at Rs 152.00 and Rs 152.25 on buying and selling counter compared with the overnight closing of Rs 152.10 and Rs 152.35, respectively.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
