ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday received Law Ministry notification for formation of judicial commission to probe alleged electoral irregularities in the 2013 general elections.
The notification requests the court to form a three-judge commission, as agreed upon by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz led government last week.
The government also promulgated a presidential ordinance, paving way for the formation of the commission.
The letter sent by the Secretary Law Ministry has been received by the Supreme Court registrar and has been forwarded to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The letter requests the court to nominate three judges, including head of the commission.
According to the signed agreement, the judicial commission will investigate the matter preferably within 45 days of its making.
