SWAT: Preparations for 30th May local body elections were in full swing at district Swat wherein political parties and independent candidates were holding corner meetings and door-to door campaigns to drum up support for their respective candidates.
District Swat consisted of 7 tehsils and 67 union councils, at the moment Pakistan Muslim League (PML), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Awami National Party (ANP) were more active as compared to other political parties.
They have also formed several committees to hold talks with likeminded people to get support for the upcoming elections.
Qaumi Watan party would soon announce their candidates while Jamaat-e-Islami’s former district president Mohammad Amin who was candidate for PK80 is not interested in local body election and they would soon announce their plan.
Pakistan People’s party (Parliamentarians) and Jamaat-e-UIema Islam were also in search for strong candidates.
Awami National Party was also looking active for local body election as the party has announced to field candidates from every Tehsil.
The ANP has finalized candidate names of 7 tehsil’s which would be announced soon, said former Minister KPK Wajid Ali khan.
Qaumi Watan Party was also struggling hard to win the local body elections as according to its Malakand Zone Chairman Fazal Rehman Nono, hundreds of applications were received for 67 union councils however, parliamentary board meeting would decide the final list of candidates.
