PESHAWAR: Peshawar, Charsada, Noshehra and other areas heavily affected by thunderous rains and hailstorms caused catastrophic effects as buildings collapsed causing forty four people to lose their lives, Aaj News reported.
The deceased and wounded include children and women, who have been shifted to hospitals including Lady Reading hospital.
Heavy Rains with the speed of 110km/h decimated houses, crops and billboards, causing the roads blockades for hours. Communication is destroyed.
Emergency has been declared in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.
Rescue operations are facing difficulties due to the heavy rains and storm. Several affected areas have fallen into darkness as a numbers of pole mounted transmitters (PMTs) tripped.
In the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rains in Malakand, Hazara and Peshawar.
Military was also called out in the affected areas to help the rescue missions.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif showed concern and grief over the causalities in KPK province, he extended his condolences to the families of deceased.
