DI KHAN: Commissioner Zakir Hussain Afridi on Thursday said 8,000 more books would be provided to the Mufti Mehmood public Library to promote book-reading culture among the citizen of the district.
Flanked by Deputy Commissioner Nisar Ahmed, the commissioner said during his visit to the Library a variety of 8,000 books worth Rs 4 million had been selected to be provided to the facility by the provincial government which had been taking measures to promote quality education among the students for effectively face contemporary and future challenges.
He directed the concerned authorities to extend timings from 8 am to 8pm for the Library in order to provide maximum time to the citizen to the visit and read more books of their choice.
The commissioner directed for taking solid measures to equip the facility with all basic facilities including additional water pumps, adding funds would be provided to carry out the repair work and ensure all those facilities on the premises of the library.
He said solar panels were needed to be provided in order to extend relief to the readers especially during power loadshedding hours.
During the briefing the commissioner was informed the membership of the readers was gradually increasing and now it stood at 1000, hoping more facilities would give boost to the number of readers.
It was told the Library had a stock of 17,000 books with a spacious hall which had be capacity to accommodate 250 people to attend any programme. He was informed the charges of Rs 8000 for holding any programme in the hall should be reduced to encourage organizations to hold their functions there.
The commissioner underlined the need for hiring services of female staff for the female and children section of the Library.
