Raid on MQM headquarters lawful, Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Interior, briefed raid on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) headquarters 90 in Karachi was lawfully supervised by Rangers, Aaj News reported.

While talking to media, he said that raid was conducted on intelligence report, adding that taking action within the boundary of law was the responsibility of police and Rangers.

Nisar said that the MQM itself claimed the ongoing targeted operation against terrorism in Karachi.

The minister said that the PM Nawaz Sharif had permitted operation in Karachi after the cabinet’s approval.

He said, all political parties were on board over the action, adding it was agreed upon that political affiliations would not come in the way of the operation.

Accordign to the Rangers officials, the illegal weapons had been recovered in the “information-based operation” and at least 24 criminals had been arrested.

The leaders of MQM claimed Rangers forces had regulated a ‘siege and search operation’ at Nine – Zero markaz, ransacked its offices and had arrested some of party leaders.

In a statement issued hours after the start of the operation, the MQM’s Rabita Committee said Rangers personnel had forcefully raided and ransacked the MQM’s head office.

According to a party spokesperson, several members had been arrested, including central leaders Amir Khan, Dr Saleem Danish, Arshad Hussain, Abdul Haseeb, Dr Ayub Sheikh, and Sindh Assembly lawmaker Rehan Zafar.

In a telephonic press conference, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain said, the raid on Nine Zero and his sister’s house by Rangers was completely unjustified.

Altaf Hussain strongly condemned the killing of MQM activist Waqas Ali Shah and blamed Rangers for shooting him, meanwhile, a claim denied by the Rangers.
