ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Wednesday that no place or person was important or sacred than the sovereignty of the country.
Asif said political parties should not have arms or armed wings rather it was only state which could posses arms, he said while talking to a news channel.
“Providing protection to the citizens and establishing peace was also the responsibility of the government,” he mentioned.
He said it was not a good omen for any political system that political parties start asserting themselves through arms, adding, and action should be taken against any political party having armed wing.
Replying to a question, he said the government was in favor that there should be ban over keeping arms.
The minister further said the government and all the other state institutions were on same page against terrorism and that religious and political terrorism would be eliminated from the country.
Karachi operation was against all the criminal elements, he said, adding, action would be taken as per law against those involved in unlawful acts and nothing would be done beyond the law.
Asif said PML-N respect all the political parties but was against those keeping armed wings with them.
The minister paid rich tributes to those who contributed in organizing Pakistan Day celebrations, saying that the move was a moral booster for the nation.
Responding to another question, he said Imran Khan had considered himself the Prime Minister of the country but his failure in this regard was a big phychological blow for him.
He said the government would accept the decision of Judicial Commission regarding rigging in general elections.
