KARACHI: The infrastructure development focused by PML(N) government will catapult the growth of social sector in the country, said Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.
Addressing the foundation laying ceremony of Karachi to Hyderabad Motorway (M-9), he said this was first phase of the envisaged Karachi to Lahore Motorway that would be completed in three phases.
Work on second and third phase of the Karachi to Lahore Motorway Project, linking Hyderabad to Multan via Sukkur and then eventually to Lahore would also be started soon, he added.
About Karachi to Hyderabad Motorway, the 136 Km four lane road that would be widened into six lane facility, the Prime Minister said the project being undertaken by Frontier Works Organization and National Highway Authority may be completed in 24 months instead of stipulated 30 months.
Reiterating that government was committed towards over all development of the country and its people, he said the government was fully conscious of its responsibilities towards education and health care needs of the masses.
“We are presently spending two percent of our GDP on education and are keen to raise it to a minimum four percent,” said PM Nawaz Sharif mentioning that efforts to strengthen the infrastructure would be the impetus in doing so.
Economic prosperity that would be achieved through industrialization streamling of business and trade would significantly contribute in stabilizing the social sector, he said.
