Captains, experts compliments Pakistan team, Sarfraz for historic performance

KARACHI: Former captains, top cricketers and experts Saturday were overwhelmed with Pakistan’s amazing victory over the formidable South African side in the World Cup in Auckland.

Former Captains Rashid Latif, Wasim Bari, and Muhammad Yousuf Ramiz Raja were all praised Misbah-ul-Haq’s Pakistan team.

But they said that team must thank Sarfraz Ahmed for his courageous batting and record-equaling wickets keeping with six catches behind the stumps.

Its impressive and imposing victory which will have great impact in teams transformation, former captain Rashid Latif told APP here after their 29 win over South Africa in Eden Park in Auckland.

Sarfraz performance with the bat and behind the stumps proved that ignoring him was a huge mistake,he commented.

Likes and dislikes must be eliminated from the team for achieving higher objectives and goals. Pakistan lost large number of highly talented cricketers at national and international because of this disease.

Wasim Bari said Pakistan team displayed good spirit while defending a small total in rain-affected match.

Sarfraz Ahmed and our bowlers really bowled magnificently to bring this important victory for the team, he said.

He said with this big win against a top team they have recreated their unpredictable tag.

Former ace batting star Muhammad Yousuf said Pakistan team must not forget their gray areas despite an encouraging and heartening victory.

He said batsmen like Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal again failed to convert their knocks in to big innings.

Both Sohaib and Umar lost their wicket on poor and unnecessary strokes. They are not learning from their mistake, the record-breaking batsman, said.

He wanted Younis Khan should be retained in the team in place of Sohaib or Umar.

Yousuf said there was no need to comment on Sarfraz Ahmed’s performance.

He (Sarfraz) proved his class in front of the whole world and proved a point, he remarked.

Sarfraz Ahmed, who was not considered in the first three matches, slammed a run a ball 49 with five boundaries and three sixes and took six catches to equal Adam Gilchrist record.

Ramiz Raja said Pakistan must work on Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal and Sohaib Maqsood batting if they wanted to achieve something in World Cup.

All three are struggling against once quality fast bowling in action.

Afridi, Sohaib and Umar batting go into disarray against pace attack in Australia New Zealand pitches, he pointed out.

A work is needed to improve their game if Pakistan looking forward for good performances in coming matches, he said.

Former Test left arm spinner Iqbal Qasim, who is also PCB Member Governing Board, said that this crucial win will have great impact on their coming matches.

This win will serve as a great morale-booster for progressing in quarterfinal and beyond, he said.

He showered praised on fighting Sarfraz Ahmed for his brilliance with the bat and behind the stumps.

Former express fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar congratulated team and Sarfraz for this glorious win.

He however adviced captain Misbah-ul-Haq to bat faster and improve his strike rate.

I am a big fan of Sarfraz and performance as keeper and batsman delighted me, he said.

He also praised  Younis Khan for his responsible batting.

However, he was not happy with performance of Sohaib Maqood and Umar Akmal.

Former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood stressed the need on captain Misbah-ul-haq to improve his strike rate.
