Now a day’s social sites have more sway in any matter than any other Mediam i:e TV, Newspaper etc.
Plus with more than 1.4 billion users hitting the social networking sites every day has gained the interest of news sites, as reported that facebook is in talks with some of the leading media groups to host their content inside facebook which would prevent the users to be directed to the external links which are always not safe.
This plan might help the news organization to keep their audience intact and they might get valuable information. The testing will begin in few months. Newyork times, National Geographic and Buzzfeed are reported to be the first in line.
Publishers will be given opportunities to earn some money from the advertising that will accompany the content that would be airing. News content right now is linked to the publishers making it hard to open the sites especially on mobiles. Even the slightest increase in the speed might satisfy the user’s as facebook is eyeing to improve the grey areas such as slow speed, heavy trafficking etc. Edward Kim, chief executive of the analytics and distribution company SimpleReach quoted that :
“But there are a lot of implications for publishers”. “It really comes down to how Facebook structures this, and how they can ensure this is a win on both sides.”
The company is introducing expanded tools to place video ads as the videos have become a popular way to attract both the user and publisher. Some news organizations are forming a bond so they can negotiate deals so they can have full authority on their advertising and this goes for all the sites not specifically facebook.
Representative of the Media groups are not commenting on the situation neither is facebook letting us in though they claimed a tool will be introduced in December to enhance the publisher interaction with the users. Facebook is still flowing with the ideas of revenue sharing which it has never done with any publisher in the past.
The privacy of policy of Facebook has been a target of critics as they gather information of their users as this will probably happen to the news site users because they will be logging into facebook. That’s why this whole thing is not a done deal because both facebook and News sites wants to control their users and especially the advertising dollars. A month or two will be required to clear the uncertainty surrounding them.
