The rupee recovered modestly in relation to the dollar on the currency market on Friday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee moved with little change against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.45 and Rs 101.50 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee gained 10-paisa against the dollar for the second day for buying and selling at Rs 101.40 and Rs 101.60 respectively, but it extended its slide versus the euro, falling 50-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 115.50 and Rs 115.75 respectively, they said.
In the final Asian trade, the dollar was on the defensive after soft US economic data halted its advance against peers such as the yen and euro while the market awaited further developments in Greek debt negotiations. The dollar index was at 94.195 after going to a one-week low of 93.979 overnight. The index had reached a two-week peak of 95.115 on Wednesday. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee was at Rs 62.16, the greenback was at 3.5740 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.2400 in relation to the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity stayed unchanged amid sluggish trading trend on the local currency market on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its overnight closing of Rs 101.60 and Rs 101.85 as its buying and selling rate, respectively. The dollar did not observe any change in its demand and supply situation. As a result, its opening rate continued to prevail throughout the day, the dealers said.
On the contrary, the rupee maintained downward slide for another day and was further depreciated against the pound sterling. Because of rising demand for the British pound, its rate was moved up from Thursday closing of Rs 154.00 and Rs 154.25 on buying and selling side to Rs 155.00 and Rs 155.25, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained strength against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday. The dollar opened at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling).
