MELBOURNE: Andy Murray levelled the Australian Open final against Novak Djokovic at 7-6(5) 6-7(4) on Sunday after winning a marathon second set lasting 80 gruelling minutes.
With both players struggling to hold serve, Murray fought off three break points to hold an emotional game at 5-5 and raised his game in the tiebreak to reap four set points.
Top seed Djokovic saved two but conceded on the third when he rushed to the net and Murray launched a dipping shot at his shoelaces that he was unable to retrieve.
Djokovic earlier took the first set after Murray wavered when leading 4-2 in the tiebreak.
The Scot appeared to be finally in control after an opening foray in which both players struggled to hold serve, but he wobbled with a double-fault and Djokovic hit back.
Murray rushed to the net and sent a volley an inch past the baseline to give Djokovic a set point and Murray conceded it when he returned a backhand in the net.
