KARACHI: Smoking has emerged to be one of the leading risk-factors for ulcers that if left untreated may unfold into serious health conditions, said senior medical practitioners during a continuing medical education program at Murshid Hospital.
Senior physicians, Dr. Abdus Sattar Essa Jaffer, Dr. Madiha Ata and Dr.Sharif Abbasi, registering their concern towards growing trend of smoking among the youth, said Life-style modification could play a major role for prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
They particularly urged the medical community itself as well as media and education department to realize their responsibility towards public health.
Dr Madiha elaborated upon various guidelines, protocols and recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of ulcers.
Medical Director of Murshid Hospital Dr Abdus Sattar Essa Jaffer, highlighted the developments in the field of medicine vis-a-vis ulcers.
He presented some rule-of-thumb concepts for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of ulcers with the help of mnemonics.
A renowned GP from Baldia Town Dr. Sharif Abbasi, sensitized the participants about the social implications of medical profession.
He also urged the participants to uphold the dignity of medical profession with the highest level of integrity in their practice.
