ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed the scrutiny of nomination papers for Senate elections scheduled to be held on March 5.
According to official sources, the nomination papers of nine candidates for two Senate seats from federal capital have been found in order during scrutiny.
The nomination papers of 20 independent candidates were found in order for four FATA seats. While the papers of 23 were rejected.
The papers of 17 candidates contesting from Punjab were found in order, while the papers of six candidates were rejected on various grounds.
In Sindh the nomination papers of 28 candidates had been accepted.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 34 nomination papers were declared valid while three were rejected on different grounds.
In Balochistan the nomination papers of 36 candidates were accepted while six were rejected on different reasons.
Candidates can file appeals against rejection of nomination papers with Secretary Election Commission or the concerned Provincial Election Commissioner on February 23 and 24.
The appeals will be disposed of on Feb 26 and 27.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature is Feb 28 while final list of the candidates will be published the same day.
