KARACHI: A meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training discussed matters relating to top five educational institutions of Karachi here on Monday.
The Senate body met under its Chairman Senator Mohammad Jaffar Iqbal at the Karachi University.
Members of Senate Standing Committee Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, Senator Rozi Khan Kakar on the occasion discussed matters of Karachi University, NED University, Dawood University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari Karachi, SMI Karachi and Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology.
Vice Chancellor Karachi University (KU) Professor Dr. Muhammad Qaiser briefed the standing committee about Karachi University.
He said that betterment can come in the varsity’s financial matters if the government released Rs 9.62 million additional grant.
Chairman Standing Committee Senator Mohammad Jaffar Iqbal said that KU is one of the best universities of the country.
He said that to meet their expenses KU administration should utilise its land to generate revenue.
He called for merit based teachers appointments in the country’s universities.
He appreciated progress reports of Dawood Engineering University and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University and hoped that both the universities will help their students in the field of research and promotion of standard of education.
Senator Mohammad Jaffar Iqbal assured that recommendations regarding the University will be delivered to the relevant officials.
The VCs of above mentioned Universities were also present on the occasion.
