ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for SAFFRON Lt. Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch Saturday said the basic responsibility to maintain law and order lies with the provincial governments.
Talking to a news channel, he said after the 18th amendment in the constitution, the federal government could not take all the matters in its hand.
The minister said the federal government, however, was lending every support to the provincial governments in maintaining law and order.
It was the responsibility of the government to provide resources to the provincial governments in the form of funds, intelligence and manpower including rangers and army, he said, adding, the government was fulfilling its responsibilities.
Responding to a question, Baloch said Karachi operation was started about a year ago against the criminal elements, but after December 16, operation was also being conducted against religious extremists and those airing sectarianism.
