ISLAMABAD: For the first time in the history of Pakistan, a new subject of Parliamentary Studies has been Introduced at diploma and degree level in both public and private universities.
The inauguration was presided by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in an impressive ceremony held at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Studies (PIPS) at Islamabad.
It was attended by the Vice Chancellors of 32 Universities, diplomats, members of civil society and parliamentarians, says a press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq urged the youth to play its role in strengthening the parliamentary and democratic traditions by keenly taking up these subjects.
He emphasized the importance of training the future leaders in the fields of democracy, parliamentary affair and legislative drafting.
The introduction of this subject will go long way in educating the youth about the tolerant and democratic values of the Parliamentary form of government.
Earlier, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq chaired the meeting of the Vice Chancellors to draw their input and feedback on the subject.
He received immense support from the academia and the teachers on the proposed subject.
The Speaker informed the meeting that the course is modeled on the pattern followed by House of Commons in England.
He also lauded the role of Media in promoting the values of democracy and freedom of expression.
Later, Speaker unveiled foundation plague on the occasion as well.
He was joined by VCs who also signed the plague.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Marriyum Aurangzeb briefed the audience about the objectives of the course and importance in strengthening the democratic values.
She called upon the students and the media to play their due roles in interest of the country. She thanked the National Assembly and PIPS for their support in the launching of Parliamentary Studies.
