ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Tuesday directed Islamabad administration and concerned departments to take immediate measures for ensuring security of important buildings that fall in red-category.
The minister gave the directive in a meeting to review progress on National Action Plan for countering militancy and extremism.
The meeting was attended among others by Secretary Interior, NC NACTA, DG-FIA, Chief Commissioner ICT and IG Islamabad.
The meeting discussed threadbare the progress made so far on various components of the National Action Plan.
The meeting also reviewed implementation status of the directives of the Minister during previous meeting held on February 3.
NC-NACTA briefed the meeting point-wise on various decisions made during the previous meeting on the subject.
The meeting was informed that a bill aimed to make illegal mobile sims a cognizable offence has been tabled in the National Assembly and has been passed on to the concerned sub-committee.
It was informed that process was underway to enable PTA to block any unwanted activity relating to extremism and militancy on social media.
Regarding developing a national counter terrorism narrative, it was informed that a draft narrative has been prepared which would be finalized soon after its approval by the Prime Minister.
The meeting was informed that as far as security of media houses and media persons was concerned, the process was underway in the provinces. ICT has already established a Panic Button alert system.
It was informed that so far Panic Button System facility has been installed in 10 media houses.
The minister was informed that ICT had conducted security audit of 76 important buildings and were categorized from yellow to green and red vis-?-vis their security arrangements.
The minister directed ICT administration, Police, CDA and other concerned organizations to take immediate measures for ensuring their security.
While reviewing positioning of Quick Response Force in Islamabad, the Minister directed to put in place a robust communication system at all important places in the federal capital to enable QRF to meet any emergent situation in a shortest possible time.
It was informed that work on developing a comprehensive plan on relocation and repatriation of Afghan Refugees was also underway and the provinces have been requested to identify new camps and requisite infrastructure.
Interior Minister directed NADRA to share its foreigner database with the provincial governments.
The meeting was informed that banks accounts of foreigners have been identified. The Minister directed that not only the accounts need to be identified but it should also be ascertained as to how the account was opened and what was the sources of income.
As per the directives of minister, on account of Hawala and Hundi, a total of 26 cases were registered, 32 persons were arrested and Rs 71.5 million were recovered by FIA.
On enforcement of proscription regime, the Minister directed that Interior Ministry to further fine-tune the procedure of proscription and that a proper system should be put in place to ensure that such organizations don’t re-emerge with new names and nomenclatures.
It was informed that so far 60 organizations have been proscribed with one on the watch-list.
The minister directed Interior Secretary to coordinate with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reconcile national list with that of the UN list of proscribed organizations.
The meeting was informed that for combing purposes 16344 operations have been conducted and 218220 persons were picked up.
So far 12462 persons were arrested and 140 out of them had terrorist links.
It was informed that so far 3265 cases of misuse of loudspeaker have been registered with 2065 arrests and 1281 confiscation of equipment.
547 cases have been registered so far with regard to hate speeches and material.
Interior Minister directed that review meeting needs to be done on weekly basis so as to effectively monitor the progress and to overcome any issues encountered.
