ISLAMABAD: The Executive Board of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Monday decided to file references against former officials of Workers Welfare Board and Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Dera Ismail Khan for corruption and irregularities.
The first reference approved by the NAB board, which met with NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry in the chair, was against former Secretary Workers Welfare Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tariq Awan, former Project Manager Abdul Waheed and contractors including Muhammad Asghar Awan, Arslan Qureshi, Manzoor Ahmad Ghuri, and Naeem Rabani in illegal award of nine contracts for illegal procurement of equipments e.g; generators, vacuum cleaners, first aid boxes, fans, fiber glass rooms, Interactive boards, stationary, carpets, uniforms, sports items etc
through fake and non-registered firms at highly exorbitant rates of Rs. 517, 466,475 approximately and causing the loss to national exchequer on accounts of short and substandard supply of equipment.
The second reference approved was against former Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Dera Ismail Khan, Prof Dr. Abdur Rahim Khan, former Controller BISE, Muhammad Atlas Khan, former Acting Controller Amanullah Khan and former-Assistant Controller Wajeehuddin Ahmad.
In this case, the accused in gross violation of rules and regulations in connivance with each other received applications from students after the due date with normal fees and in some cases even without any fee.
The anwser sheets were illegally rechecked, fraudulently remarked, award lists were changed/replaced and tampered by using fluid and overwriting in the result sheets of both SSC and HSSC Annual/re-totaling results by misusing their authority and thus extending illegal benefit to the non-deserving students.
In the garb of re-totaling, thus re-checking and re-marking were illegally conducted and marks of 2394 students in 4140 answer sheets of SSC and HSSC were illegally changed/increased.
The illegal and corrupt practices of the accused persons caused grave social injustice by awarding illegal marks to the non-deserving students who in turn deprived the deserving students of their due rights, In this case, the accused caused a loss of Rs. 2,945,000 to national exchequer.
The board also decided to close an inquiry against Najaff Abbas Siyal, Ex-Land Acquisition Collector, (LAC) Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and others.
The Executive Board also decided to close a complaint verification against Allah Wasaya Awan, EX-DG, Information Technology, Training & Research regarding accumulation of assests beyond known legal sources of income due to lack of incriminating evidence.
