LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz Monday said that education is vital for the progress of any country and civil society has a very important role to play for promoting education in Pakistan.
She was addressing a seminar held under the aegis of NGO “Door of Awareness (DoA)” at the Iranian Cultural Centre here.
DoA Chairperson Ruba Humayun presided over the seminar while Consulate General of Iran Muhammad Hussain Bani Asadi, Vice Chancellor GCU Lahore Prof Dr Khaliqur Rehman, Margo Abdul Aziz, SM Naseer, Rehmatullah Javed, Dr Ahsan Mehmood, Ijaz Khan, Kashif Anwar Akbar Barkhrdari and others attended the seminar.
The Minister said the government was fully committed to provide education to every child across the country with the aim to upgrade its quality and standard.
She said the government would extend every possible support to the civil society and NGOs in their efforts aimed at strengthening education sector in the province.
DoA Chairpersons addressing the function said that her organization has been working in the field of education since last seven years.
She said that DoA focused on less privileged children living in small huts and makeshift cottages where 11 schools have been setup.
She said that more than 1000 children were studying in the schools being run by the DoA across the province.
Three sewing centres and three computer centres also providing training to the women and girls, she added.
Speakers during their address, appreciated the DoA team for its services towards promotion of education and skills training to provide employment.
Later, the provincial minister gave shields to the participants and children.
