ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said Friday that democracy salvages nations while dictatorships have always ruined them.
Talking to media after attending a seminar on interfaith harmony here, the minister said that he was surprised to know that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has stated that Pakistan could not have a good dictator who could have transformed the nation.
The minister said the entire world knows that dictatorships have destroyed many countries and Germany under Hitler and Iraq under Saddam Hussein were two such examples.
He asked Imran to tell as to who was good dictator Hitler, Mussolini,Saddam or General Franco?
He said Pakistan was also dismembered during dictatorship.
He said that Imran used to be a supporter of a dictator and canvassed for voting in favour of a dictator during the so-called referendum.
About NA-122 constituency, he said that it has become crystal clear that Imran Khan lost in the 2013 elections and Ayaz Sadiq won by a big margin after the recounting process carried out by the local commission.
He said Imran first expressed confidence in the local commission formed by Justice Kazim, but when he realized that in the recount he would lose, he started finding fault with that commission.
Similarly he used to demand dissolution of the Election Commission of Pakistan which in his words had conducted most rigged elections in history of Pakistan, but now he has not only met the Chief Election Commissioner but praised the ECP while talking to media.
“One cannot comprehend when Imran would praise an institution and when he would start criticizing it”,the minister added.
He said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz can take pride in the fact that in the first two terms of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,it conducted local government elections and even now in Balochistan where PML-N is a coalition partner, the LG elections were held last year.
About Punjab he said that election process had started and nomination papers were filed last year but due to legal issues and court directive, they had to be postponed.
Now the Punjab government was ready to conduct LG polls, subject to completion of delimitation process by the ECP,he said.
About the decision to hold March 23 parade,he said that revival of peace time things has started and the nation would not only see proudly their Armed Forces parade this year but also several leaders of friendly countries would visit Pakistan.
Moreover,he said that many development projects delayed due to misadventure of Imran Khan last year would be launched soon.
He said that military courts would start working soon and enemies of the country would be penalized.
Earlier while addressing the seminar he said that Pakistan would soon become a peaceful and tolerant country and launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azb was the starting point of that process.
He said that in the past Pakistan used to be a peaceful society where people from all religions and sects lived peacefully, but after the start of first Afghan war, hatred and intolerance started creeping in our society.
He said that name of religion was used by certain powers to win a war in our neighborhood and curricula was changed on the behest of those powers.
But unfortunately after the war was won,the superpowers left the region and Pakistan was left alone to counter those elements.
The minister assured the participants that for the state, worship places of all religions were as sacred as the mosque and with the grace of God a time would soon come when Pakistan would be transformed into a state as envisioned by Quaid-e- Azam.
“I want to tell the terrorists that their time is over and time has come that all Pakistanis irrespective of their creed would live peacefully,” he added.
