Euroleague holders Maccabi Tel Aviv had Jeremy Pargo’s overtime three-pointer to thank for a thrilling 97-94 win over Galatasaray in the sixth round of the Top 16 while Real Madrid cruised past Clasico rivals Barcelona.
CSKA Moscow, who have claimed six Euroleague trophies, suffered their first defeat of the Top 16 campaign after losing 84-76 to Olympiakos Piraeus.
Maccabi looked to be heading for defeat when they trailed Galatasaray by 10 points midway through the third quarter but fought back to level the match at 85-85 going in to overtime.
Pargo, who racked up 17 points in the match, struck his second overtime three-pointer just before the buzzer sounded as Maccabi recorded their fifth victory in six Top 16 matches.
Real remain top of Group E on points difference from Maccabi, however, after a comfortable 97-73 victory over Catalan rivals Barcelona.
Former NBA guards Rudy Fernandez (22) and Sergio Rodriguez (23) notched up 45 points between them as real, winners of a record eight titles, celebrated their fifth Top 16 win.
Panathinaikos remain third in Group E after a 65-59 victory over Alba Berlin, while Red Star Belgrade slipped to the bottom after losing 70-68 to fellow strugglers Zalgiris Kaunas.
Euroleague heavyweights CSKA remain top of Group F on points difference despite losing to second placed Olympiakos.
The Greek side’s playmaker Vassilis Spanoulis struck 19 points as they condemned CSKA to their first loss in six Top 16 matches.
Elsewhere in Group F, third placed Fenerbahce Istanbul edged Spaniards Laboral Kutxa 91-90 in a nip and tuck encounter, while Unicaja Malaga beat Nizhny Novgorod 85-76.
Emporio Armani Milan are bottom of the group after slipping to a 73-71 defeat against Anadolu Efes.
